Over the past twelve years Russell has held every office amongst the Michigan Association of Professional Landmen (MAPL) and served as AAPL Region II Director and advisory to Michigan Landmen for five consecutive years. During the 2011-2012 fiscal year he served on AAPL’s Executive Committee as Third Vice President under Jack Richards, President. Over the past three years, Russell was Assistant Chairman on the AAPL Millennial Task Force, Certification Chairman, and now serves as Chairman of the AAPL Advanced Educational Studies Task Force. He considers himself a Field Landman having first conducted Landwork in 1981 and now having over thirty five consecutive years of land related experience. His travels have spanned over fifty different counties in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula where as an Independent Contractor he has represented dozens of different oil and gas exploration companies. His primary skills as a Landman include negotiating oil and gas lease acquisitions and interpretation of oil, gas and sub-surface mineral title. Through his “hands on” field experience and participation in regular continuing education seminars and workshops, Russell is qualified to perform all duties of a Landman on a Certified Professional level. It is the love of the oil business, dealing with people, significant challenge and satisfaction of discoveries that make him anxious to start each new day of work in the Michigan oil and gas industry and the land profession.
