Hi, I recently received my RL and would like to pursue an RPL and then a CPL. I have one CPL now that is mentoring me and need to find another. Since COVID-19 has made it more challenging to meet people at various functions I was hoping to maybe find a CPL here that would be willing to mentor me so that I can continue down this journey. My name is Cory Dickerson and I do mostly surface work, but do have some minerals experience as well. I am also about to graduate with a Master of Science in Energy and have learned quite a bit about various types of energy. My background is in Engineering, and project management in utilities primarily electric distribution and transmission as well as solar and battery storage. If someone would be interested in speaking with me please let me know and I would be happy to set up a call to discuss further details.

    Thanks!

Cory,  It seems that you might be a perfect candidate for the AAPL Mentorship Program.  It is a really wonderful membership benefit that is free and joins mentors/mentees within the industry.  You can learn more about it and join by following this link: https://www.landman.org/get-involved/mentorship

    Have a great day!

    Cory,

First of all, I applaud your work towards continuing education.  I personally believe that everyone in our profession should be an active member in both the state associations that you work in as well as the national organization that supports our profession and in this case it is the AAPL.  I agree with Sara and others that you should look at the AAPL mentoring program and with that AAPL  can focus someone with you in your area that brings about the expertise that you are looking for.  I have been in that program as a Mentor for various people that have wanted to know more about Wyoming rules and regulations and working on federal lands.  With that said let me take this one step further.  After nearly 45 years as a Landman who is proud of our profession I have found that the contacts made by and through AAPL are the number one thing that our organization can help you with.  As Le'Ann has so often said with NAPE "This is where deals happen".  Taking that statement further "This is where contacts are made".  Use your membership book or online membership data base and reach out to people in the area that you may or may not know.  I have never known a member of this organization that will not take the time to talk to you and bend over backwards to make sure you have good information.  Use your contacts and make new ones.  If you are working in a new state or basin look up the AAPL Director for that new area and that should be your first phone call.  You have 12,000 mentors at your beck and call use them and you will be a better Landman for it.  Finally, if you or anyone else reading this needs information on Wyoming or working federal lands please feel free to reach out and call me further.  It is what we do as an AAPL member and it is the right thing for our profession.  Good luck.

    Cory,

I have extensive mineral title experience with an emphasis in heirship/curative.  After 10 years of contract work I am acutely aware of how challenging it is to fully develop skillsets without a steady organization that has training and succession programs.  If I can be of help to you please reach out.  I would be happy to show you anything I know how to do.

Also, I noticed that Pioneer posted an opening for a Land Tech over in Irving.  If I could do anything different with the last 10 years I would go in-house...again, training and organizations!
