It is with great sadness that I just learned that Les Tacconi passed away on April 4, 2020. He wa born on July 20, 1939 and lived in the Woodlands. I had just gotten a message on Facebook that today was his birthday and was getting ready to post a note when I found his obit. Les was my mentor and taught me so much when I first started as a landman back in the early 80’s during one of the hardest hit times of our profession and became a great friend. He always told me to “never burn the bridges because you never know who you will be working for later in your csreer” and as it turned out, after working together for a few years at Cliffs Drilling Company, he wound up working for me at a smaller independent several years later. We had a lot of fun working together and he will be truly missed by me even though we had lost that close contact over the last few years. He was a very talented musician and had a great love for his family. He will be truly missed.

His family is planning a celebration of his life at a later date yet to be determined. His obit is on the McNutt Funeral Home page.

Thank you Stephanie for posting this about Les.  I worked on many deals with Les Taconi in the Gulf of Mexico in the 1980's. He was a true gentleman and a great Landman.  When I sat across the table from Les and asked him a question, I always knew I was getting an honest answer.  Les had integrity and character, which are the only assets a true Landman can have. I had not seen Les in years, but I will never forget him. My prayers are with Les' family and friends.

Thanks for letting us know, Stephanie.

As you know, Les took me under his wing for a while at Cliffs. Great person and landman.

The first thing I saw from Les is that it was all about family. He truly loved being a dad and grandfather.

    He'll for sure be missed.

Les Tacconi was all about family, integrity, honesty, and was very charitable to the needs of others.  He is a very good friend and an even better man.
I first worked with Les from 1997 to 1999 at Amoco, Phillips & Burlington and then for Chevron Land/Legal from 2000 to 2007.  Les was an excellent Landman with a steel-trap mind.
Yes, he will be missed because God only made one of him.
