Independent Contractors and Unemployment

I know that the Democrats and Republicans are battling it out over whether to continue the federal 600/week unemployment. It's scheduled to stop July 31. A lot of folks don't have a job to go back to. The Oil biz is still in the tank. Any news from our leadership if we can somehow keep the Independent Contractors benefits going for awhile longer? It's a daily grind to ferret out work. Please advise

    Thanks so much

You mean you're actually receiving unemployment benefits?  We have applied for it since being laid off on 3/20/2020 and still nothing.  Not even a return phone call from the agency despite calling in numerous times.

Have you applied for PUA (Pandemic Unemployment Assistance) or regular Unemployment Compensation? PUA is designed for independent contractors and others that are traditionally outside of the UC system. I wish you the best and hope you get back to work soon!

I live in West Virginia and have been trying to get unemployment for over 12 weeks now.  I have called the local office number and multiple other counties numbers well over 500 times. I have also sent 20+ emails.  I was approved for PUA set to pay me up to date around $6,000.  However, on 5/13 my status was changed to active issues/disqualified.  No way to contact anyone and no response to 31 messages sent!
