I am saddened to note the passing of our friend and fellow landman Garland B. Robinson, Jr.
Garland passed away on November 11, 2020, from complications following surgery. He was a native of Oklahoma City and graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1973 with a B.S. in History & Political Science. Following a few years roughnecking on rigs with Beard Oil and Helmerich & Payne, Garland began his land career with Conoco in their Oklahoma City office. During his +40-year career as a professional landman he also worked at Exxon and Marathon, later returning to ConocoPhillips. For the past few years Garland has been engaged in contract land work as the owner of Bolton Petroleum and according to his wife "he loved being a landman and wouldn't think of doing anything else, despite the hard times".
Garland was a fine gentleman and and excellent landman having served each of his employers well and as a mentor to many young landmen over his career. He is survived by his wife Ruth and two children, Ashley of New York City, and Garland III of Houston. A memorial service will be planned in the future.
