I am saddened to note the passing of our friend and fellow landman Garland B. Robinson, Jr.

Garland passed away on November 11, 2020, from complications following surgery. He was a native of Oklahoma City and graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1973 with a B.S. in History & Political Science. Following a few years roughnecking on rigs with Beard Oil and Helmerich & Payne, Garland began his land career with Conoco in their Oklahoma City office. During his +40-year career as a professional landman he also worked at Exxon and Marathon, later returning to ConocoPhillips. For the past few years Garland has been engaged in contract land work as the owner of Bolton Petroleum and according to his wife "he loved being a landman and wouldn't think of doing anything else, despite the hard times".

Garland was a fine gentleman and and excellent landman having served each of his employers well and as a mentor to many young landmen over his career. He is survived by his wife Ruth and two children, Ashley of New York City, and Garland III of Houston. A memorial service will be planned in the future.

Fully agree Steve. Garland was an excellent landman and a great person. He had a big smile and incredibly positive personality. He was a friend to all and would help anyone, anytime.  He loved tinkering with his Porsche and OSU football. Garland was a fellow OSU alum landman (not many of us) and we shared many stories. The few times OSU beat OU in football, Garland would make sure to stop by the offices of his OU landman buddies and rub it in a little. All in fun.

    He will be missed.

Garland was a giant of a man both in person and in his heart.  Also one of the nicest men I've ever met.  Always willing to help.   Enjoyed both working with him and the OCAPL weekend takeoffs. I'll miss him.

Steve - thanks for sharing this. Very saddening and shocking to learn of Garland's passing. I had the good fortune to work with him and get to know him a few years ago on a due diligence project. He was truly a kind-hearted and gentile guy who loved being a landman. Great sense of humor. He always displayed a positive attitude on the job regardless of the task and was a team player in every sense of the word. I was really taken aback by this news and it is just a reminder that we need to appreciate each day and those colleagues we work with.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, kids and extended family as they deal with this loss.

And I was just reminded Garland worked for Mobil Oil Corporation...pre-Exxon! Thanks for clarifying, Mandy.
