On March 18, the Interior Department published an update for their upcoming March 25 public forum on federal oil and gas leasing. According to the Interior Department, "The public forum is part of Interior's comprehensive review of the federal oil and gas program as called for in Executive Order 14008 and will feature several panels to highlight perspectives from invited participants including industry representatives, labor and environmental justice organizations, natural resource advocates, Indigenous organizations, and other experts."

If you are unable to join live or the forum reaches capacity, you can watch the forum on the Department of the Interior's website at www.doi.gov/events. It will be available live and following the event.

For background, as reported in the March 22 Governmental Affairs Report, on March 9, the U.S. Department of the Interior announced it will be conducting a "comprehensive study of whether -- and how -- the U.S. government sells drilling rights on federal land and waters, a review that could chart the future of U.S. energy development for decades to come." The study is reportedly in response to appeals from both oil industry leaders and environmentalists who have pressed the Biden administration for clarity on the leasing review. As a first step in the process, the Interior Department will hold a virtual forum on March 25 (click here for information on attending) on the future of leasing and to hear from industry representatives, environmental justice groups and natural resource advocates.
