I am a geologist, GIS mapper, and an RPL.  I am wondering if there is a need for experienced GIS mapping individuals with considerable land, mineral, natural resource and environmental knowledge.  Bottomline, I would like to work creating maps for projects and prospects.  Does anyone look for people that can map on a contract basis?

Those jobs definitely exist.   Reach out to small operators and brokers.

I am also a GIS Specialist with expensive land and natural resource experience. I am currently working in the Telecom industry mapping future aerial and underground builds. Let Mark and I help you out in your next spatial and geolocation project.

    There are so many applications!

Interesting that my minor was in geography (so I could take even more geology and apply the some geology credits toward a geography minor).  I never expected for "geography" to be part of my professional life and it has definitely been that.

I also have a masters in geology with a minor in GIS. I use GIS daily for a broker mapping depth severed leasehold and to communicate to the client where certain tracts are that have funky metes and bounds calls. It is also a great tool for pinpointing certain data based on a specific criteria you want to look at by selecting by attributes. There are a lot of jobs and applications for GIS out there, but most of them are not necessarily advertised.
