AAPL Announces New Director of Education and Member Services
The American Association of Professional Landmen is pleased to introduce Stacey J. Garvin as director of education and member services. A Certified Professional Landman and longtime member of AAPL, Garvin has held memberships with the Oklahoma City Association of Professional Landmen and the Houston Association of Professional Landmen. He also is a past president of the West Houston Association of Professional Landmen.
Garvin's extensive leadership and land management experience includes the Gulf Coast, Mid-Continent, Rocky Mountain, Appalachia and Gulf of Mexico regions of the United States. An Oklahoma native and University of Oklahoma Energy Management Program alumnus, he began his professional career checking records in Stephens County, Oklahoma. Later he joined BP Exploration and Oil Inc. as a petroleum landman and progressed to increasing levels of responsibility. During his 26 years at BP, he worked as a landman, land manager, commercial manager and business development manager. While working and living in Houston, Garvin also completed his master's degree in management at Houston Baptist University.
In 2010, Garvin moved to Pittsburgh as the vice president of land and business development at Atlas Energy Inc., where he led the company's aggressive exploration and production campaign that culminated with a leasehold position in the Marcellus and Utica Shale that was later purchased by Chevron U.S.A. Inc. for over $4 billion. He was appointed as Chevron's land manager of the Appalachian Michigan Business Unit and in 2014 returned to Houston to serve as the functional land advisor for Chevron's deepwater appraisal projects in the Gulf of Mexico. In 2016, the board of directors of Trull Oil & Gas Ventures LLC, a privately held oil and gas firm in South Texas, appointed him president and chief executive officer to manage its extensive mineral and land assets.
Garvin serves as a board advisor to OU's Robert M. Zinke Energy Management Program and as trustee of the Eunice Lewis Mathematics Education Scholarship at OU. A former treasurer of the BP Federal Credit Union, he presently serves on the board of directors and as an advisor to First Financial Bank.
Garvin will join AAPL May 29, 2018, at its headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas. Please join us in welcoming him to his new role!
"Stacey brings a unique set of skills to the role of director of education and member services," said AAPL President David Miller. "His onshore and offshore experience coupled with his administrative experience will enable him to oversee education while managing the business side of AAPL. We are thrilled to have Stacey on the AAPL team."
"I am so very excited and thankful for the opportunity to serve the AAPL membership, staff and board as we build on the existing success that has been established in the program," Garvin said. "As your new director of education and member services, I look forward to exceeding your expectations and working with the AAPL team in Fort Worth."
